Helping Women With Chronic Pelvic Pain in DC-MD-VA

Chronic pelvic pain is a medical condition that many women suffer from. Urinary, reproductive, and gastrointestinal conditions may cause women to have pelvic pain, however, there are other circumstances that may be causing the pain.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is caused by varicose veins in the lower abdomen that have poor blood flow. A patient may also suffer from May-Thurner Syndrome that is caused by a compression of the iliac veins.

Both Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS) and May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS) have associated symptoms, but chronic pelvic pain is the most common. Other symptoms include dull achy pain that worsens during intercourse or menstruation.

The team at the Center for Vascular Medicine is highly trained to diagnose and treat both PCS and MTS. We use several techniques including pelvic ultrasounds, venography, laparoscopy, and intravascular ultrasounds to identify these conditions. If you are diagnosed with one of these medical conditions, we strive to provide the most conservative and minimally-invasive treatments. Each patient is different and may need a combination of our treatment options. We may use embolization therapy that injects a sclerosing agent into the veins. We also offer stenting that uses a mesh tube to restore blood flow.

For more serious cases, we may recommend bypass surgery that will restore blood flow in the pelvic region.  We have trained vascular doctors that diagnose and treat PCS and MTS. Chronic pelvic pain can affect your quality of life. Our experienced physicians will conduct a thorough examination and determine the best treatment option for you. Our goal is to treat PCS and MTS with high-quality equipment and the utmost care.

Schedule a consultation today with one of our doctors at any of our 16 locations if you have been experiencing chronic pelvic pain.
